{\b The Charlotte Town Resolves (or The Mecklenburg }. Resolves ) {\b General Outline}. The Resolves were adopted on May 31st, 1775 by the Mecklenburg County Committee of Safety in Charlotte, North Carolina. {\b Historical Background}. The Mecklenburg or 'Charlotte Town Resolves' are not to be confused with the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, which announces the independence of Mecklenburg County from Great Britain. The Declaration was supposed to have been made on May 20th, 1775. The Mecklenburg Declaration is not supported by documentary evidence. It was taken from an account given years later by several old men who said that they had signed the Mecklenburg Declaration. However, the original copies of the Mecklenburg Declaration were said to have been destroyed in a fire in 1800. A new version was printed on April 30th, 1819. Historians regard the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence as a "spurious document." {\b Conclusion}. The Mecklenburg Resolves are a strong expression of revolutionary sentiment in the period immediately before the War of Independence.
